Transource is developing the Rice-Ringgold Project, a 29-mile double circuit 230 kV transmission line connecting the proposed, new 500/230kV Rice substation in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania to the Ringgold substation in Smithsburg, Maryland. This project, awarded by the PJM Interconnection, LLC (PJM), is needed to reduce grid congestion and allow lower-cost power to flow more efficiently to area communities. Transource representatives determined the preferred route selection after conducting extensive environmental impact studies, land use reviews and gathering feedback from the community during open houses held in March in Greencastle, Pennsylvania and Hagerstown, Maryland.
Transource hosted open houses on March 16 and 17, 2026, to engage directly with landowners and community stakeholders regarding the Rice-Ringgold Transmission Line Project. These events provided an opportunity for attendees to meet with project team members, ask questions and learn more about the proposed transmission line.
Transource filed applications with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission in May 2026 and expects a decision by early 2027.
