Transource Energy, a partnership between American Electric Power and Evergy, plans to build approximately 40 miles of 345-kilovolt transmission line between the Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E) Mathewson Substation in Piedmont and the OG&E Redbud Energy Facility in Luther, Oklahoma.
The Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the regional transmission operator who oversees and monitors the power grid across 14 states, mandated this project to relieve congestion on the power grid in and around Oklahoma City. After considering several alternative projects, SPP awarded this project to Transource through a competitive proposal process involving other transmission service providers.
Transource hosted two open houses on December 9 and 10, 2025, to engage directly with landowners and community stakeholders regarding the Mathewson–Redbud Transmission Line Project. These events provided an opportunity for attendees to meet with project team members, ask questions, and learn more about the proposed transmission line.
The project team collected hundreds of comments from landowners and community members during the open houses. This valuable feedback is now being reviewed to help guide the ongoing planning process.
Transource encourages additional input from the community and asks that comments be submitted by Wednesday, January 7, 2026, to ensure they can be thoughtfully considered. Feedback received will inform refinements to the route options (study segments) that were initially shared during the open houses.
A final route determination is expected in early 2026, ahead of the project’s planned Certificate of Authority application filing with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission in spring 2026.
